Astoria Oregon, Tuesday Night
Dec. 23rd, 2008 05:35 pmFor the first time ever, and over a few objections from higher ups in the Witness Protection program, Billy was staying with his mother, step father, and sister, in their actual home, not a safe house.
Getting there had not been easy. He'd flown into Portland, and had taken a number of different transports. Something nagged at him. He had thought he had seen his room mate at the airport. That would bear some thinking about.
The house was somewhat of a security nightmare too, as it had once been used as the location for a popular 80's movie about kids hunting for pirate treasure. But Sam, Billy's step father had refused to move. He liked the house, the location, and so did his family. Mary had decided she was done running, if not quite hiding. And Jeanie absolutely loved the place.
But the security cameras, hidden around the premises monitored any passerby, particularly tourists who stopped for pictures, and ran faces through the various databases. It was as safe as they could make it.
Billy could see why they liked it. It was, he thought, looking at the house, a place he wouldn't have minded growing up in.
( Cue the IAWL vision )
Billy blinked away the strange vision. Would that really have happened? Had he had such an impact on his father's crusade? He had saved the lives of more than one member of the G.I. Joe team. Had thwarted a few of his father's schemes, and given the man something to think about. Even his aborted attempt to assassinate him may have had an influence.
Maybe, despite all the pain and hardship, his life had in fact, worked out for the best.
