"You know, no matter how many times I've seen it in the past," Billy said. "Zartan's disguise ability never ceases to amaze me. Only a guy with his skills could disguise a van like this on such short notice." Then he turned to the man sitting across from him in the van. "You know this is crazy right? And I know from crazy."
Cobra Commander grinned. "Paranoia has it's advantages sometimes Son. No one except my nearest and dearest have ever seen my face. I'm safer than you are."
Billy had to concede to that. His own disguise of a fake beard and mustache, sunglasses and Fed Ex baseball cap seemed disturbingly simplistic. But he trusted Zartan's judgment.
"We're here." one of the Crimson Guardsmen, a man named Wade Collins, also disguised as a Federal Express employee called back. Billy hefted the package that would help with his cover, but was in fact, a bit of a care package put together by this universe's version of his father. Baby pictures, and Storm Shadow's own personal weapons: a katana and a brace of throwing stars.
He and the Commander shared a look, and finally, Billy reached out and clasped him on the shoulder. "Thank you. I hope you win."
And he was out of the Van, and walking casually into the warehouse with Wade Collins. On the other side of the building it was a strait shot to the causeway.
Once they were inside, Wade closed the door and nodded to Billy. "Alright Sir, you should be good to go from *phut*gurgle*thud*"
Billy dropped the package and dove for cover as the bullet ripped through Wade's throat.
"Lose the beard please." a very familiar voice requested. Footsteps echoed across the warehouse floor as the attacker approached Billy's cover. "It's creepy."
Obligingly, Billy pulled the fake hair from his face, and also removed the hat and sunglasses, re-donning his eye patch. Wade's blood was spattered across his chest, and he cursed himself for leaving his only weapons, in the care package, across the floor.
"Relax I'm not going to kill you." Agent Kessler assured him. "C'mon out. You're wanted alive. My superiors have a hell of a lot of questions."
"I doubt they'll like, or even understand the answers." Billy replied, rising, his hands held in plain sight. "Or has GIJoe started recruiting theoretical physicists?"
"Not so far as I know, but that's not my department." Kessler said, looking Billy over carefully. "Goddamn they did a good job on you. The eye patch is actually a nice touch."
"It grows on you." His eye flickered to the package, but Kessler smoothly interposed himself between it and Billy. He held the silenced pistol easily in his hand, barrel pointed not, quite at Billy, but not quite away from him either.
"So, they used the name Kessler here too huh." Billy said, casually approaching his doppleganger. "Some things never change, no matter what world you're on."
"You're not gonna distract me with confusing comments." Kessler snapped. "And that's close enough." The gun was now pointed directly at Billy.
"I thought they wanted me alive."
"They weren't any more specific than that." The pistol was now cocked.
"Good point. You're right though. This is close enough." With one swift movement, his right foot lashed out catching a nerve cluster in Kessler's wrist. Numbly, Kessler dropped the pistol, and as if the whole thing had been choreographed, his fist slammed into Billy's left eye.
"Sonofa!" Billy growled, and attacked.
The two opponents seemed at first, to be evenly matched, but it soon became apparent, that that was not the case. Agent Kessler had been trained by one of the world's most skilled ninjas since infancy. Billy, though he learned very quickly, had only been trained for just under a decade.
"Not bad." Kessler grinned, spitting blood from his mouth, sending Billy sprawling with a kick to the chest. He landed hard on the care package
"Thanks." Billy grimaced. "I try. I think you're better though." He rose painfully to his knees. He found it hurt just to breathe after that last kick.
"Yeah I think I am too. Question is, why are you smiling then?"
"Because I know something that I'm pretty sure you don't know."
"Oh? And what's that?"
"How to fight in the dark." Billy whipped out his hand, hurling one of Storm Shadow's stars into the fusebox on the far wall. With a shower of sparks, the building was plunged into darkness, and Billy learned he was right. When it came to blind fighting, he did indeed have the upper hand.
"Also, there's something I have that you don't." he grunted. And his left leg shot out, metal shin connecting with Kessler's temple. The other Billy dropped like a sack of potatoes.
The door burst open, and Billy seized Kessler's dropped gun, and had it aimed for the newcomers in what seemed like the blink of an eye. When he saw who it was though, he lowered the gun.
"Found your son." he coughed. It really hurt to breathe.
Cobra Commander looked at the scene, stunned. "Are you okay? Is he okay?"
"He'll live." Billy nodded. "So will I. But I've really got to go."
"You need to see a medic." the Commander protested.
"I will. Get him," he pointed to the fallen Kessler. "To your doctors. You and he need to have a long talk don't you think?"
Kessler's father nodded silently, and gathered his son's limp form in his arms.
"Sorry Kessler," Billy said. "But you'll thank me for this someday. I hope."
With one last look, Billy and Cobra Commander went their separate ways, the Commander to the Van, which escaped Alexandria post haste, and Billy to the far door, which revealed the welcome sight of the causeway.
Despite his new limp, he made good time getting across.
ooc: Mostly establishy, but if you want to spot Billy returning to Fandom, go ahead. He looks like he's been in quite a fight.
