G.I. Joe: Waward Son

Ami got the phone call and came right over, wondering what this was all about. As usual she had been buried in her room with a pile of books.

"Hey." Billy said, smiling though, awkwardly, and rising from his chair. "Thanks for coming over."

From:

"Of course. What's up?" Ami asked worriedly, coming into the room.

From:

Billy sighed. He'd thought about this, and he hadn't come up with anything better than; "I, I think we shouldn't see each other anymore. As a couple, I mean. I mean I still like you, it's just that I think the reason we've managed not to run into each other mostly for over a month..." He reigned himself in before he started babbling.

Ami looked at him and blinked. Clearly she was just misinterpreting what he said? It had to be her non-native grasp of English. Because Billy wouldn't just break up with her for no good reason right?

"What?"

From:

"I..." Crap. "Ami how much effort, has either of us made to spend time with the other? I mean we stayed in the cabin and managed to not run into each other. I just...I think, our relationship may have run it's course." Yeah he was screwing this up probably.

From:

"Oh..." This was a new and less-then-exciting feeling. Ami thought that it sounded a bit like it would feel if her heart really was being squeezed in a vise. "Um..." She didn't really know what to say.

From:

"I'm sorry, I'm not doing this very well. And, well I'm sorry in general." Yeah, he felt like a heel. Maybe there wasn't any way to do this without that.

From:

There really wasn't.

"I see... um... ok... if you are sure..." After all, Ami had never done this before. This was her first relationship, and she had no idea how they were supposed to end. "I'll... just go then"

From:

Adam had gone for a ~~handwavey~~ run earlier, having just returned. "Hey Billy," He greeted his roommate.

From:

Billy's first relationship had ended with him buried alive, and his second with the girl running off to join a biker gang. He didn't know either.

"Ami, I really am sorry. But I don't regret being with you. I want you to know that."

From:

"Hey." Billy said dully, leaning back in his desk chair. "How was the run?"

From:

"I... ok... um... bye." If she didn't get out of there then, she was going to cry. And she had seen enough TV shows to know that you never cry in front of the boy.

From:

"It was good," Adam smiled slightly. "You okay?"

From:

Billy didn't cry. He wasn't really a crier. He did however sink down into his chair and bury his face in his hands for a really long time.

From:

"I'm okay. Just...life's at it's most complicated just now I guess."

From:

Adam nodded, frowning slightly. "Something happen?"

From:

"Ami and I just broke up."

From:

"Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that," Adam replied sincerely.

From:

"Thanks." Billy nodded. "I think it was coming for a while now. Doesn't quite help knowing though."

From:

"You're welcome," Adam nodded. "No, I'm sure it doesn't," he agreed. "You want to do something? I know the Fourth of July barbeque is later this afternoon."

From:

"Uh, no, no thanks. Not feeling that sociable just now."

From:

Adam smiled softly. "Yeah, I can understand that. If you change your mind though, I'll be down there."

From:

"Cool. Have fun man."

From:

"Thanks. I'll certainly try," Adam smiled brightly.
