By the time Billy and The Baroness arrived at the lab he had steeled himself against his fears, and his misgivings about his disguise.

"The rumors of my defeat were greatly exaggerated." he told the head of the lab when they arrived. "Show me my children."

The man in charge, a creepy looking mad scientist type calling himself Splice grinned. "Of course Commander." he said. "I think you'll be pleased with our progress. The late and unlamented Serpentor's pet project continues to grow." He glanced at the Baroness. "I did not realize you had re-joined us my dear."

"Given your own revolving loyalties, I'd hardly think you're surprised." she sneered. Splice had begun his career in the Cobra rebel group known as The Coil. Using Dr. Mindbender's notes and the collected DNA from Billy, and several of histories greatest female leaders they had begun work on a 'bride' for their master.

When Serpentor had been defeated once again Cobra Commander had taken over management of the installation. Rather than have the young clone destroyed he had allowed it to live. He figured it might be interesting to have a daughter.

He had also had another clone ready for 'production'. Using the DNA samples from Billy and the Baroness, he had set in motion a plan to create another Son. One that would be taught from the start to be loyal to him.

His other various schemes had delayed the start of this one. But when word that the Commander had resurfaced reached Splice, he had ordered the son to be created.

Splice led them through the facility, yammering away. "I must say Commander you gave us all quite a scare. You came so close to final victory, only to vanish. Many thought you dead."

Billy snorted. Frankly he was glad he knew his father was alive and incarcerated somewhere. If the man died, Billy would not trust it. Either the death would have been faked, as it had many times before, or the bastard could have a clone or something waiting in the wings.

Hmm, now that he thought about it, maybe they should check to make sure that was not the case, as long as they were here.

"I have been thought dead many times Doctor." he said. "My enemies learn otherwise to their despair."

The baroness was carrying a large attache case handcuffed to her wrist. They'd come up with an explanation as to what it was, but no one asked about it. Just this once, Billy appreciated the blind loyalty his father had cultivated. That case was how they were going to get out of here.

He turned to her. "Baroness. Inspect the security systems. You may join us once, and if everything is to the parameters we discussed."

"Of course Commander." she nodded. They had studied the layout of the facility in minute detail over the past few days.

Splice and Billy continued into the main lab itself. There were several stasis tubes arrayed along the walls, most of them empty. In the center of the room lay the primary cloning chamber. Inside lay an infant boy.

Billy managed to suppress the urge to rush to the chamber. Instead, he forced himself to regard it coldly, then survey the room. There was only one other occupied chamber, and again Billy was hard pressed to contain himself.

There slept his daughter. Five years old.

Splice stood next to him. "Remarkable." he murmured. "Mindbender truly was a genius. The DNA of Joan of Arc, Cleopatra, Boudicca, Catharine the Great, the Queen of Sheba, Elizabeth the First, Hippolyta, the Hebrew Queen Esther, Jane Goodall, Princess Diana, Hua Mulan, and of course, our dear Baroness, all combined into one, perfect being."

Billy was a little surprised that not only had Serpentor gotten a sample of Jane Goodall's DNA, but that he had decided to add her to the mix at all.

The reverence in the man's voice gave lie to his earlier comment that Serpentor was unlamented by him. Billy turned to look at the man. He seemed to be lost in a kind of religious ecstasy.

"Open them."

"I, I beg your pardon?"

"You'll certainly be begging if you question my orders." Billy growled. He still kind of got the creeps hearing his father's voice whenever he spoke. "Open the chambers. Did you think I came just to inspect the facility Doctor? No. I've come to collect my children."

The man's eyes widened, then narrowed. "Commander you know I would never be so disloyal as to question your orders. I merely wanted to be sure I heard you correctly. "When you started this project, you gave me a very specific time-table. Have you changed your mind?"

"Obviously."

"That is of course your perogative Commander. It's just that you didn't say the code phrase you told me at the beginning."

Billy swore. It figured. This was going far too easily.

"No. I suppose I didn't. It was too much to ask I suppose that we'd managed to get all the codes. My father always was a tricky bastard."

Splice's eyes widened again in shock. "You!"

He dove for the alarm, but Billy pulled off his helmet and smashed it. "Me."

Quickly changing direction, Splice headed for an ominous looking red button. Some things were constants. Like ominous red buttons.

Billy was upon him in an instant. He knocked the man off his feet, and stamped down on his left hand with all the strength in his prosthetic leg.

Splice's agonized scream was high and piercing. Billy hauled him off the floor and slammed him into one of the empty stasis chambers. "Look at me Doctor. Look at me!"

Splice did, gasping in pain.

"That was your non-dominant hand. Now, open those chambers, and let my kids out, or I'll break the other one. One, bone, at a time."

"You, you wouldn't. You're a Joe. You-"

"You know what happened to my father?" Billy interrupted. "I broke him." He slammed the man even harder against the tube, cracking the glass. "Right now I'm a father who wants his kids. Let them out, or you'll find out exactly what I mean. And Doctor..." He leaned close and smiled a smile that perhaps his father would have been proud of. "Remember, between me and the Baroness, I'm the good cop. Any harm comes to those kids and your death will take a very long time."

He looked around the room. "Hell, we may be able to use yours and Mindbender's notes to clone you. And we can spend years torturing you to death."

He didn't mean to follow through on this threat. Probably. He hoped to God Splice bought it though.

Splice bought it. Not necessarily that Billy would follow through. He wasn't sure the boy was that much his father's son. But he had heard many stories about the Baroness.

The Baroness reached the lab just as the two chambers opened. The sudden temperature change, though minor still woke the boy who began to make his displeasure known.

Before he could properly get started, The Baroness, with a tenderness that surprised even Billy, gathered him up in her arms. She wrapped the boy in one of the blankets she'd brought in the attache case.

"There there darling." she cooed to him. "Mommy's here."

Billy for his part, caught the girl as she collapsed out of the tube. She was wearing a simple white hospital gown. He cradled her limp body, and lowered her to the floor. As he brushed her long brown hair out of her face, her eyes opened blearily.

"Hi Daddy." she smiled.

"Hey kid." he said, his voice thick. "Have a good nap?"
