Day Trip: Ocean City Maryland, Sunday

It was about a three hour drive to get from Alexandria to Ocean City. It was still early in the season, only partly sunny, and in the low 50's, so there weren't too many people there. Which is just how Billy liked it. Plenty of time for hellish crowds during the summer.

The big parking lot at the end of the boardwalk was nearly empty, making parking a hell of a lot easier than it could have been.

The boardwalk started almost immediately off the lot, with mostly closed shops, restuarants, and arcades lining it. The Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum was open, however the pier with it's thrill rides, water slides, and fishing spots was still gated and locked.

"And this," Billy said to Ami. "Is a boardwalk town in the off season."

"I haven't played a lot of video games, but I kinda like the ones with a good story."

"I don't think they have those for the arcade? More for the home systems..."

"Makes sense." Billy admitted. "The Simpsons Samsons game was fun though."

"Don't think i have ever played that one... What was in it?"

"Ever seen the Samsons cartoon?"

Ami nodded, putting on her horrid headband. "Once or twice."

Billy got the eraser. He might just give it to Willow.

"Well the baby got hold of a huge diamond, and for some reason the evil millionaire guy took the whole baby instead of just the diamond. So the Samsons had to fight through several levels of his henchmen to get the baby back."

"Sounds like a cool if standard plot."

"Most of the real fun comes in the Samsons environment that the game takes place in. I always played the son, cause his weapon was a skateboard."

"Jude would love that." Ami grinned.

"Yeah I'll have to mention it to him. I wonder if we could track down one of those games too." The smell of boardwalk fries were wafting towards them. Possibly deliberately fanned in their direction by the clerk.

"Mmm... smells like food."

"It does indeed." Billy grinned, heading over to the fry stand. "Not much action this early in the season is there?" he asked the guy behind the counter.

"Nope. Just the hard core anti-tourists."

Ami contemplated the term. Were they anti-tourists? "The ocean-smell makes one extra hungry eh?"

"Mostly for sea food I guess." the guy shrugged. "The fries is mostly tradition."

Ami just smiled at the random fry-selling guy. Seh paid for the fries, on the theory that it was her turn.

"Do you want to go down by the water?" she asked Billy, when they had wandered away.

"Sounds good." he nodded. He liked the sound of sea birds and the waves. And he also rather liked the fact that the place was not packed with tourists.

There was a little set of stairs down to the sand-level nearby, which they took. THe beach was mostly deserted, with just a few beach-combers with metal detectives wandering by.

"It is lovely here."

"Yeah it is." he agreed. "Maybe someday I'll get all scraggly and leave out by the ocean."

" What does that word mean?" Ami asked as she munched on a fry and looked out at the vastness of the water.

"Which? Scraggly? It's like scruffy."

"Why would you want to be scruffy?"

"Well I don't mean anytime soon." he said. "Just, someday for a while. complete the pirate look."

"Heh, you still owe me dressing up as a pirate" She smiled and ran to the ocean.

"That's true." he said. "Though for you I think I'd go with dashing instead of scruffy."
