Billy found himself trying to come up with creative ways to defy Umbrage's newest decree. There weren't too many loopholes left to obnoxiously exploit. Maybe he could somehow injure himself while in bed at the appointed time, so as to belie her claim it was for their safety.

"Come in!" Billy called.

Sokay if Billy greets her with the European tradition of kissing her on both cheeks? as a way to defy Umbridge?

"Hey," Willow said, coming in. "What's the up?"

Sure!

"Ah my sister," he stepped forward, and kissed her on both cheeks. "Oh, and now I've gone and broken the rules."

It took Willow a sec, but then she got it. "Are we breaking the rules just by my being here? Too, I mean. In addition to your thing."

"Not yet we're not. Hopefully not ever."

"What is with her?" Willow asked. "The other day she put a silence spell on me! I couldn't talk in class!"

Billy shook his head. "I personally think she's insane. But if you want the inside scoop, talk to Hermione."

"Will do," Willow said. She went to take a seat. "So what's new in your life, little brother?"

Billy sat down on his bed and sighed. "Well, it's what's old in my life that I wanted to talk to you about. Have I ever told you about my family?"

"Not too much," Willow said. "I didn't want to pry."

Billy nodded. "Well it's just as well because it would have been a lie anyway. But recently I decided I should come clean with people."

"Clean?" Willow asked. "I never thought of you as being dirty. If that helps."

Billy smirked. "Thanks. But seriously, I've been telling people that I'm a foster kid. That my father was in the military but he and my mom were killed in the same car accident that took my eye and leg.

"But the truth is that my parents are both still alive. My mother and I are in witness protection because my father is the leader of the most powerful terrorist organization in my world. He's alternately washed his hands of me, kill me, and recruit me, by hook or by crook. And it's entirely possible that the car accident that left me like this wasn't an accident at all."

Willow gasped. "Oh my gosh! I had no idea!"

"The cover story was supposed to keep me safe. But lately I've decided that it'd be safer all around if people knew the truth. If he decides to come after me again people need to know about it. They need to know either to stay out of his way, or...if something happens to me..."

Willow looked determined. "No way! We'll protect you! I will personally bring the powers of spells and shin-kicking."

Billy smiled. "And see? That's what I'm talking about. With my cover story, no one would have known to do that. The organization he leads is called Cobra." He pulled a copy of a wanted poster he'd gotten from the FBI's website.

"This is him."

Willow noticed the mask. "Awfully shy for a terrorist."

"He's very paranoid. I think I'm one of a handful of people in the world who know what he actually looks like."

Well, if anyone should know, it'd be you," Willow said.

Billy chuckled ruefully. "Except that I didn't, until I was 12. The first ten years of my life I didn't even know he was my father. Then I lived with my first sensei for a year. After that I was in a coma." He touched his eyepatch. "When I woke up, he was there. Swore to make it all up to me."

"Unless his first attempt was a puppy I'm guessing he didn't really have much success," Willow said.

"Actually his first attempt was this leg." Billy knocked on the metal prosthesis. "Then things got complicated, and someone tried to kill him, and he went crazy..er. That was the end of the very short good times we had."

"I'm sorry to hear it," Willow said, with sympathy. "Other than being on guard, or possibly en guarde, for them trying to come after you, is there anything I can do t ohelp?

"Unless you know a cure for crazy, I don't think so. Actually I hear from my future kids that he might go so crazy later as to be harmless. So much so that he lives with us."

"Wow," Willow said. "Talk about your mixed blessings."

"Heh. Yeah no kidding."

"Well, I may not know a cure for crazy, but I do know how to hug," Willow said, by way of an offer.

"That'll work." Billy smiled. "And at the same time you're helping me, you're also defying Umbrage."

"Then I am for both, and its cyclical relationship to how our encounter today began," Willow said, giving him a hug.

He hugged her back gratefully. "You're the best fake sister ever."
