New Jersey, Thursday Late Morning/Early Afternoon

Five police cars, one fire truck, and two ambulances arrived. Uniformed police got out of the cars and began a sweep of the immediate area. The first man out of one of the cars however, was not wearing a uniform. Well, not a police uniform at any rate.

The man in the black suit strode purposefully towards Snake-Eyes.

"What in god's name happened here? Scarlett said you and Billy were going to rescue Storm Shadow. She didn't say anything about a pitched battle in the middle of Jersey with the Dreadknocks."

Snake-Eyes could only shrug, and started signing an explanation.

Tori managed a small smile. "No, you're right."

[Her leg had a deep gash in it and her shoulder had been cut open by some brick shrapnel.]

Adam nodded, understanding completely. He wouldn't have expected anything else. "But the good thing is you're okay."

He checked her over. "Well, I don't see anything too terribly serious, but your leg may need some stitches." He took out some bandages and went to work on her leg and shoulder.

"That is a plus." he nodded. "Except I failed."

Great, just what she needed.

"Stitches?" Tori frowned, not liking the sound of that. That would mean she would have to let them heal and she might not be able to do certain activities... like surfing, for a while. "Guess I should get it checked out at the hospital, then?"

"It had better be," Adam nodded. Hearing what Billy said next, he frowned ever so slightly. "Maybe so, but the good thing is you can try again."

And that? Was a huge plus in his book.

"That would be my reccomendation yeah."

"True." he said after a moment. "So...that was my dad."

"Okay, I'll make sure to do that then," Tori admitted, giving in. As much as she didn't like the attention, she knew it would get worse if she just let it go.

Just as the EMT suggested, once Tori got to the hospital, she made sure to get her leg checked out.

Stupid wound that needed stitches. It hurt a little and Tori had a slight limp because of it, but she'd be okay in a week or so.

The man in the suit that had talked to Snake-Eyes earlier came into Tori's room. His expression was one of practiced calm.

"How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay," Tori shrugged, only half-lying. She was used to pain, but her leg was really bothering her.

It wasn't just the pain, it was the fact that she'd allowed herself to be open enough to get the injury in the first place.

"Yeah," Adam nodded, not sure what to say about that. "Your dad, quite a guy."

The man ~~played by Robert Patrick~~. Sat in a chair near the door. "That's good. The Dreadknocks are some nasty customers. My name is Duke. Among other things I'm Billy's caseworker with the witness protection program."

"Heh. Yeah." Pause. "My mom's cool though."

"So I've noticed," Tori quipped, smiling ever so slightly. "Nice to meet you Duke, I'm Tori," she offered out her hand to him.

He smiled slightly too, and shook her hand. "Pleased to meet you as well. I wanted to ask you, you and your friends, the others that accompanied Billy, you're all from Fandom High?"

"Likewise," Tori smiled. "We are, yes," she nodded. "Though I'm part of the alumni crowd, have been since May."

"That's good." he said. "It makes things less complicated."

"That it does," Tori nodded. "I just hope he'll be okay," she admitted, the worry evident in her voice and eyes.

No, she hadn't seen Billy yet. She'd like to hurt his father for what he'd done.

"Oh yeah?" Adam grinned, happy to hear that. "One out of two ain't bad," he joked.

A lot of people would. Among other things. Duke was pleased that he didn't have to explain why it simplified matters. "Lifeline's the best medic there is." he said proudly. "And from what I hear, Billy's gonna pull through just fine. He won't be doing much jumping around for a while though. At least he won't if he doesn't want Scarlett to kick his ass."

Billy smiled too. "Finally got herself a decent man too."

"That's good to hear," Tori smiled, meaning it. It made her feel better. "Oh, great. Now I won't have to worry as much," she admitted. Even though she'd still totally worry. Shh, it was what friends did.

"Yeah, apparently I won't be doing much training or surfing either, not until this leg heals up. Got to give the stitches time to settle," she frowned at that.

"Good for her," Adam grinned, seeing how it made Billy smile.
