There was an envelope sitting on his bed when he got back to his room. It of course had no return address. Or, even an address at all. Just his name.
Dear Billy;
We never got much chance to get to know each other in the short time we actually spent together. And the few letters we manage to get to each other hardly seem sufficient.
So I didn't know what to get you for your birthday. But you're a teenager so I'd imagine the money enclosed should do just fine.
I love you son, and I miss you. Take care of yourself.
Love,
Mom
Billy smiled sadly and stuffed the money into his pocket.
door's closed but knockable
