The Gobi Desert, Sunday

l1ttle_billyThe past few days had not been fun. Not even in comparison to the days leading up to it. In that time, while trying to help Storm Shadow cope, Billy had learned some of what had happened.
Snake-Eyes had left T'Jbang in charge of the Red Ninjas after defeating their former leader Sei Tin. Broken his back even. But Cobra provided Sei with a new spine in exchange for his loyalty. That was the guy with the creepy eyes. When their attempt to kill Storm Shadow and Billy had failed, they had come up with plan B. They had kidnapped Junko, and brainwashed her, turning her against Storm Shadow.
In the battle beneath the mountain, Snake-Eyes had defeated Sei Tin once more. All the same, Billy and the others considered the mission a failure. They had after all, failed to save Junko.
"What have I done?" Storm Shadow whispered. "I can't...I can't...I am alone now."
"No Tommy." Billy countered as he and the others supported the former Cobra ninja. "You're not."
Now, six days later they had trekked into the Desert to say their final farewells to the dead. Swords were placed in a double circle in the sand, and several ninjas held urns with the ashes of the fallen.
"We join today to praise the fallen." Storm Shadow began. So many souls, the misguided and the innocent alike. So many souls lost in conflict. Ancestors, take them and grant them new life in the wind and the stars. Let the moment of their passing be the last they will ever know of pain and despair."
The ninjas opend the urns and poured the ashes out in a line, between the two circles.
"Farewell honored warriors." Storm Shadow concluded.
"So speaks Thomas Arashikage, reborn now as the Phoenix Master of the Arashikage Clan." T'Jbang added. As the wind picked up, taking the ashes into itself, he turned to the surviving Red Ninjas. "You six, the last of the loyal, will form the foundation of the new Arashikage Disciplines."
They bowed, and headed off back towards the mountain. In the past few days there had also been some discussion as to who would now lead the Red Ninjas, now the new Arashikage. Snake-Eyes had actually offered Billy the job, who had politely declined.
"Are you sure Billy?" T'JBang asked. "I wold support you. Snake-Eyes left you a gift. The leadership of this clan. And that gift would lead you on a new path. You need one. Just as much as he does."
Billy smirked. "And I'm honored, I really am. But I have a new path. I've been running all my life. I've been a ninja, a soldier, and a walking casualty. But in Fandom I've come to know myself. That's the path I'm on, and I'll follow it a bit more. It's time for me to be my own man."
T'Jbang nodded, and Storm Shadow embraced him. "You always were Billy."
