Annette, Billy's pet skunk, had developed a habit of riding on his shoulders. And as the weather turned colder, he found he didn't mind.

And yesterday, Billy had picked up his little sister from school on a borrowed motorcycle, making sure his eye patch, tatoo, and prosthetic leg were clearly visible. A boy had been giving her trouble and he'd come to glare and scare him off. He gave Jeanie permission to make up any story she wished as to how he had come by all three.

But now it was time to gather around the table with lots of food and drink, and roll eyes if Billy made any cynical comments about the origins of the holiday.
