His sophomore year of school was over, and Billy had grand, grand plans for the summer. He hoped some friends would join him on his adventure.

He thought the Nation's Capital would be the perfect place to kick off this tour of some of the country's sights he'd never actually seen. And some he had.

[This post is open to everyone, regardless of if they've even met Billy. Just say he put some handwavy notices around Fandom and on the listserv.]

From the great phallic symbol that towers over the mall, to the hidden grove of the Teddy Roosevelt Memorial, there's no shortage of these landmarks to check out. WWII, Vietnam, Lincoln, and more!

"I wish we didn't need this," John said. "War is bullshit."

"I will both argue and not argue then," he said, staring at the list of names on The Wall.

"This war was indeed bullshit. As three of my good friends who survived it will attest. Just, not opposed to war on general principals. There are things worth fighting for."

"I won't deny that. Just think it's bullshit people gotta die because they have an idea." He couldn't express his thoughts at the moment. Not the right place. Not the right time.

"Yeah. I guess on the whole of it, most wars are bullshit. They should never have started. But there always seems to be some asshole who wants to ruin it for the rest of the world."

Museums

Visit the Smithsonian to get your culture on! The Museum of Natural History perhaps, or Air And Space. Billy particularly recommends the food at the American Indian museum, and the Spy Museum is great fun. There's also American History, lots of art museums, and then there's the Holocaust Museum. Which is hard to get through without crying.

It's hard to miss the Capital building, it's right up on that hill. And for more fun go check out the protesters at the White House!
